Tip of the Week

An Idea to Relax
So many of us have a tendancy to try and put to much energy into our
release, including me. I found a way to have a more relaxed hand during
my release and follow through. During your approach, imagine the opposite
hand relaxing. For a right handed bowler, as you are walking up the approach,
set your mind to the left hand being relaxed. I guarantee your whole body
will follow into a relaxed state.

The Deuce
Friday I drilled myself a Storm Deuce. I left the surface in the out of box condition. Bowled
in the Pro Shop Classic league that evening. Had no tug and when sending it wide, left a 10 pin on almost every in between hit. Shot right around 620 for the night.
Saturday after finishing up opening about 20 thumb holes for our juniors I decided
to polish the ball. Spent about 15 minutes on the surface. I went out to the league lanes
and proceeded to shoot back to back 279's. In each game I left a stone 9 pin.
The polish produced a tremendous area, plus hitting power

Pulling It

Watching the same bowler throwing his or her ball in the wrong place

repeatedly is enough to drive a coach out of his mind.

For example:

A beginner bowler has a tendency to pull the ball inside his target, thus

either being on the wrong side of the head pin or very possilbly

missing the head pin all together. Most of the time this happens

for only one reason. In the arm swing, the ball wound up away from

the bowlers body. Automaticlly when the swing goes forward, the ball is pulled left.

The next time you bowl, keep the arm as tight to your body as possible.

One last thing. Make sure your shoulder stays up, or you could hit your ankle.

Ten Pins

Have you ever looked where your ball is after it hits the pins?

So many times we leave a solid 10 pin on what appears to be

a great shot. The next time you hit the pocket and leave a 10 pin,

or if you’re a left handed bowler, a 7 pin, look where the ball went.

Nine out of ten times the reason why you left the corner pin was your ball

deflected when it hit the pocket. It probably went over behind the 9 pin.

A perfect strike will have the ball going straight back with no deflection.

The next time you leave a corner pin, try to figure out how it happened. Most likely

it wasn't the bad luck you thought you had. Perhaps too much speed, maybe

you were too far in the center of the lane and hitting too much oil. Possibly

you didn't get enough fingers into your release. Look for the reason

instead of complaining. It might help you on your next shot.

Have you noticed
How many times during the evening do you throw a ball and
picked up at the foul line. A person with a fairly smooth approach
might have a reason for doing so. Its very possible that when you were ready to follow thru, the ball hung on your thumb and never came off smoothly. When this happens, it will jerk your entire body up at the foul line. The opposite thing is possible. If you go to drop the ball, your body will flinch and squeeze. Again preventing you from a smooth follow
thru. Make sure you always have a consistant tightness on the thumb.
Tape is a necessity in a consistant release
